Resources for Thai Massage, Traditional Thai Medicine & Theravada Buddhism

Hi there,

Due to personal circumstances I may need to spend a few months in India.

While I'm there I thought I'll spend some time earning my keep and gaining experience and knowledge in Buddhism and healing practices. Any suggestions to where I can obtain some skills, knowledge, experience in exchange for work? Maharashtra is probably where I'll need to be.

I am quick learner, hardworking, reliable, dedicated, good with people, can speak Hindi, Gujarati. Although I am keen to work in the healing, health and wellbeing sector, my other qualification is a BSc Honors degree in Computer Systems Technology. So am also happy to do any admin work, teach IT skills etc.

Any suggestions, help greatly appreciated.

Hi.

The obvious first place for me would be Dhammagiri (S.N. Goenka's world headquarters). You can stay there, participating in meditation classes, volunteering as an assistant, and so forth, indefinitely. (And I'm sure they would appreciate your language skills.)

If you don't know what I'm talking about, Goenka is the founder of the most extensive and well-respected network of Vipassana meditation centers outside of any monastic structure in the world. (Info at www.dhamma.org.)

I only spent about 3 weeks at Dhammagiri, but have spent a lot of time in other Goenka centers in Thailand and Massachusetts. Let's start another thread on that if you want to discuss.

Enjoy!
