Three reasons for NOT showing compassion in massage

Again, this is something I'm just putting out there for you all to reflect on. It is not a suggestion to stop being compassionate in massage, it is simply a sharing of my understanding of the human c…

Just who exactly do you massage in massage?

Hi everyone! I've decided to throw this idea out to you all to see what your reaction is. I recently received an email from a fellow Thai Massage therapist in Cambridge, UK, who is on the point of s…

To focus on anatomy in Thai Massage is to misunderstand Thai Massage completely.

Thank you for welcoming me to the group, Pierce. I very much like the six points you set out on the 'homepage'. One additional thing I know from studying with both Pichest and Chaiyuth is the 'conne…

Hi Alessandro, The only thing I can advise you to do is to follow what your teacher has taught you to do. My teacher taught me to start with the feet and after eight years it is still the way I start all my massages. However I do know that many of…

There are two very important points which tend to get over-looked in this commonly accepted female/left-side, male/right-side approach in giving a massage treatment. 1. The energy the therapist uses in the treatment is completely unquestioned. By…

Hi Everyone, In this discussion of types of touch, elemental-based treatment, Polarity Therapy and pulse-based disgnosis within the modality of Thai massage, can I just lend a voice to the more abstract and spiritual experience of energy work in Th…

Although my position within Thai massage is slightly different (I treat the underlying issue causing the manifestation which is the subject of diagnosis, hence I don't follow diagnosis), I am really delighted to see such width and depth of discussio…

There is also the annnoying decision that every traditional Thai Massage school, who teach Farang, has to take in Thailand and that is.... If all our students are demanding references to anatomy and physiology, then what to do, what to do. If we do…

This is a kind of double reply to the posts of both Nemir and Jo (above). Again, it is interesting to read about the concept of Channeling coming from the Old Medicine Hospital. And again it falls in with my own (limited) experience of the masters…

It's great to hear that the Old Medicine Hospital says this, as it is also what I share with students in my 'Dealing with Stress and Energy Blocks in Thai Massage' class: the therapist does not heal the client, or in other words, massage does not he…

I like the idea of being a conduit. My personal definition of compassion has nothing to do with 'suffering with' another. Rather I feel compassion to be love flowing from above, through me to others. Being a conduit explains it perfectly, although a…

Interresting points indeed! Going back again to the basic 10 day course at the Old Medicine Hospital, the teacher Wasant explained that in the old days Thai people did not know about anatomy and physiology, all they knew was that pressing here helpe…

dear Robert, One of the concepts i remember from the course at The old medicine hospital, is that massage does not, cannot heal, as it is not "medicine" , massage unblocks the energy by stimulating the SEN. The Prayer to Shivaka recited at the begi…

thanks for the add Robert. The photo was taken in Orange beach Alabama in February. I grew up in south Texas and went to South Padre Island at every opportunity. After moving to Arkansas 4 years ago I realized I was feeling like a land locked mermaid. This is the closest nice beach to us (11 hours). It is so worth the drive.

i don't know of a way to migrate a discussion from one place to another automatically. probably the best thing to do is for you to start a new discussion thread (under the FORUM tab), then cut and paste your opening comment in (or write something new) as the starting post. I can cut and paste mine or write something new after that. Let's see what comes of it.

Thanks.

THis is certainly one of the most important "lenses" through which Thai massage can be seen, and one that i strongly emphasize in my upper-level theory courses. I wonder, however, how many Western teachers/students/practitioners are actually comfortable connecting and operating on this level. I've always found students to be enthusiastic about learning about this in class, but I wonder how much they employ spirit invocation or "divine vision" in their daily practice. Would be a great forum topic to get started.
